Dave Backer

Dave Backer brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience across the cell and gene therapy manufacturing ecosystem. His background spans viral vector CDMOs, cell therapy tools, gene editing services, and advanced manufacturing platforms.

He previously served as Chief Commercial Officer at Oxford Biomedica, where he led global commercial strategy and partnership development for lentiviral manufacturing and licensing programs. Prior roles include senior leadership positions at ElevateBio BaseCamp and MilliporeSigma, where he directed commercial and strategic initiatives across gene and cell therapy services.

Earlier in his career, Dave co-founded and led Molecular Medicine BioServices, a viral vector manufacturing organization that was successfully grown and ultimately acquired by Sigma-Aldrich. Dave was most recently CEO of a cell therapy tools company Curate Biosciences.

He currently serves as a CMC Advisor to a nonprofit foundation advancing novel genetic medicine programs utilizing base editing and custom AAV platforms, while continuing to advise CDMOs, technology providers, and therapeutic developers on clinical manufacturing and commercial strategy.
